STATESVILLE, N.C. – A sheriff from North Carolina said that a jeweler would not allow one of his deputies to take an engagement ring because he was carrying his service weapon.
Iredell County Sheriff, Darren Campbell, wrote on the ministry's Facebook page that a uniformed MP had made it to a Kay Jewelers store in Statesville on Tuesday to take the ring. he had bought.
Campbell said the director met the deputy at the door and told him that he could not enter the store by carrying the service weapon. The deputy minister told the officer that removing the gun would violate departmental policy.
Campbell said the deputy left without the ring and described the meeting as "hard for us to understand".
