Sherrick’s widow Lynne Conner Smith is breaking her silence over Wendy Williams’ sexual assault allegations against her late husband.
Ahead of the release of her biopic, “Wendy Williams: The Movie,” the talk show host alleged during a panel discussion with reporters that Sherrick had “raped” her years ago before d. ‘go to a party together, according to People.
But Smith told Page Six that Williams should let Sherrick “rest in peace” because the man she loves “is not here to defend himself.”
“Sherrick was a beautiful man, a genius with a voice like an angel,” Smith told us Thursday. “We have three wonderful children. It is quite painful not only for us but also for his nieces and siblings.
The moving R&B singer passed away in 1999.
During the panel discussion, Williams, 56, claimed that Sherrick “hypnotized me with his twinkling eyes. He turned the interview over to where he was interviewing me – I was just gaga for this man.
Smith’s family, meanwhile, said in a separate statement to Page Six: “The man others knew as ‘Sherrick’ passed away 21 years ago. He was loved and adored by his family and we miss him every day. As I will never minimize or reject the horrific acts of sexual assault, I am saddened that Ms. Williams feels the need to make these allegations publicly when the man she accuses is no longer on this earth to defend herself. Our family do not know Ms Williams and are not aware of any relationships or encounters she may have had. “
Smith questions the timing of Williams’ remarks.
“Why wouldn’t Wendy call the police if that was true?” she told us. “Why did she go out with him?” We also have questions!
The film’s producer added that Williams “waited 25 to 30 years” to speak up when she “spoke the truth about a career!”
“It’s hard to believe,” she said. “Why now?!”
William’s biopic is scheduled for lifetime release on January 30 and will feature the incident.
Smith was married to Sherrick from 1993 until his death in 1999. She told us that Williams “never contacted [Sherrick’s] family.”
Williams’ rep did not immediately return a request for comment.
