A 60-year-old Huntington Beach camper missing in Inyo County was found safe, CBS News reported in Los Angeles. The search for 60-year-old Sheryl Powell of Huntington Beach resumed Monday morning after her disappearance Friday in the Bristlecone Pine Forest area.
She was found alive by members of the ground search team near the Montenegro Springs area, near an area where her dog had been found a few hours earlier.
Powell's family claimed to be an experienced camper and hiker. Joe Powell, her husband for 40 years, left her with his 5-pound dog Miley to take him for a walk while he parked his vehicle. But when he came back a few minutes later, she was gone.
Powell looked for his wife an hour before calling for help. He even called back his office in Huntington Beach.
"He was just pissed off and said," My wife is gone, "said her colleague Jackie Morton. The couple is known for camping and hiking frequently. "They have so much experience in this field, so it's bewildering," Morton said.
Because Powell is so experienced as a camper and hiker, her kids feared the worst – until rescuers found her. The researchers say that Powell was "resistant, strong but exhausted".
After her rescue, she was examined at the nearby Bishop's Hospital.
