Shinsuke Nakamura relinquishes the crown of the King of the Ring

Although WWE has so far given virtually no details on the latest King of the Ring tournament which started on Friday night SmackDown this week – including who will be involved, how many rounds there will be, support, whatever – we at least know it’s happening. To that end, intercontinental champion Shinsuke Nakamura did the babyface and relinquished the crown he’s been racing with for months now:

“A new King of the Ring crowned in a few weeks. I respect the King of the Ring tournament. I have proven myself as a king. Because of this, I give up my crown. So you won’t call me King Nakamura but you can call me Intercontinental Champion.

What nobility. Honorable, even.

The tournament begins later in the evening with Rey Mysterio taking on Sami Zayn in the first round.
