It is glorious to be under the spell of "FitzMagic" for the 2019 season if you are a fan of the Miami Dolphins.
As magical (and horrific) as this race may be, Miami finally needs a quarter of a franchise.
Should they try to find the next signal caller in the NFL 2019 draft?
Or do you expect the chips to fall "right" and to grab the top pick in 2020?
Each situation has its own trap and promise, weigh the pros and cons of each direction.
You want a QB star in 2019? It will cost you dearly.
Kyler Murray has established himself as the trendy choice of Arizona at the top of the rankings. Miami should only appear to progress in the draft if quarterback Dwyane Haskins of Ohio State is targeted.
Haskins has long been linked to the Giants in the sixth choice. I do not see Miami mortgage the recent stock of choice to enter the top five.
If the Giants move in one way or another on Haskins, it could become interesting.
The next council teams with the needs of the quarter, at least for some, are the Denver Broncos and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Denver holds the 10 pick while Cincinnati has the number 11. Joe Flacco and Andy Dalton are veterans of the race, but their organizations could have an eye on the future.
Miami can not feel safe when Haskins passes one of these teams.
If the Dolphins must have Haskins, they will probably have to approach their divisional friends, the Buffalo Bills, which are your choice.
Will their hated rival want to do business with them?
If the price is right, maybe. Miami should probably trade the first rounds and possibly a second round choice to win four places.
A good emergency plan for the Fins could be Drew Lock at 13, if he is on the board. Miami could take a look.
The best would be to negotiate if that is the case and see if you can get it later while adding more choices in 2020.
Holding for 2020 carries many risks
We have all heard the hype of "Tank for Tua" and, barring the unexpected, it is probably the first choice next year.
The only guarantee for getting Tua is to be the worst team in the NFL this year.
Miami is bad, but they are not the worst team in the league.
Twelve teams finished worse than Miami in 2018, it seems hard to imagine that the 12 will be better than this year.
That said, Justin Herbert (Oregon) and Jake Fromm (Georgia) should be on the Dolphins' radar and in play.
Miami will be a formidable team in 2019 and should be in the top five this season.
With an abundance of ceilings and drafts, the Miami Dolphins have some influence and some flexibility.
Hope they use it properly.
My opinion is that dolphins should use these benefits by 2020 when the available talent pool will be larger.
The price for Haskins in 2019 may be just too high for a team with so many needs.
