Knight Shovel: Pocket dungeon, a falling-block puzzle adaptation of Yacht Club Games’ platformer series, launches this winter on Nintendo Switch.

Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon got a trailer during Nintendo’s Indie World Wednesday live preview. It is the sixth sequel or spin-off of the franchise, which dates back to 2014. Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon, billed as a ‘roguelite puzzle game hybrid’, was announced in February 2020.

In a trailer featured with the game’s announcement, Shovel Knight is tasked with matching groups of enemies that snap into place (a standard puzzle challenge), but he’s also part of the board itself. When Shovel Knight moves, the board changes. Cleaning the rooms leads him to new areas, some of which are procedurally generated. The Shovel Knight series amiibo can be used to call out a “familiar fairy friend,” the Yacht Club said.

The game offers a Story mode and a Versus multiplayer mode. The Yacht Club reports that 10 characters from the Shovel Knight universe are part of the character cast.
