Twitter has launched a new app designed to be a testing ground for new features. And the company wants you to help test these new features. So, if you are an avid Twitter user eager to help set the direction of the social media platform, here is your chance.
A little background on Twitter
First of all, a little context on Twitter. When it was launched in 2006, Twitter called twttr. This was partly because the Twitter.com domain was being used by someone else and partly because its five characters reflected SMS short codes.
Calling the new twttr app is a nod to these early days and suggests that the company wants to create a new Twitter from the ground up. And it would not be a bad thing, because apart from the 140 to 280 characters, Twitter has not changed much over the years.
The prototype program of Twitter
All of this is about to change thanks to the Twitter Prototype program. Twitter describes the program as "exploring new ways to make the conversations you care about easier to read, understand, and reach." Because Twitter would be nothing without conversations.

Twitter's prototype program is currently changing the way conversations work. Which means changing the way Twitter users interact with each other. Twitter has realized that it is difficult to follow two-way conversations and seeks to change that.
Ideas currently on the table include changing how tweet responses are displayed. This may involve adding rounded corners (such as text messages) or adding indents (such as Reddit threads). Tweets can also be color coded to make it easier to follow a conversation.
