If you’re having trouble sending messages in the Signal secure messaging app, it may be due to technical issues that the company says is affecting the app on Friday.
Signal allows secure and encrypted video, voice and text communication, but users were greeted this morning with messages that could not be sent. Signal confirmed the issue on its official Twitter account with a promise to “restore service as quickly as possible.”

Over the past week, Signal has reported a surge of new users to its app following a recommendation from Tesla CEO Elon Musk and a new WhatsApp privacy policy that may have steered users away from the Facebook-owned messaging service and turned to more secure options like Signal and its competitor Telegram.
There may not be a direct link between the massive influx of new users and the outage, but it ensures that more people will be affected. We’ll keep an eye on the issue and update it when Signal has more to share.
