Silent Hill could do two reboots, including one from the average developer – Report

Konami may not be up to one, but two new entries from Silent Hill, a Japanese developer gearing up for a reveal this summer.

The report, compiled by VGC, suggests Konami may be preparing two different reboots of the popular horror franchise, one of which is already well in development at a Japanese studio. Bloober Team, developer of The Medium, could potentially work on the other, with CEO Piotr Babieno confirming that the studio worked on a horror IP address from a “very famous game publisher”.

“We’ve been working for over a year on another game project, another horror IP address, and we are doing it with a very famous game publisher,” Babieno said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. “I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m pretty sure when people find out that we’re working on it, they’ll be very excited.”

This would match other clues that Bloober may be working on his own Silent Hill entry. Earlier this year, acclaimed Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka confirmed he’s working with Bloober on another game outside of The Medium. Just a few weeks ago, Yamaoke also appeared on a video where he teased a project he described as “the one you were hoping to hear about.” The video was quickly taken offline, with Konami denying any involvement.

VGC reports that Konami previously approached the developer of Until Dawn Supermassive Games to develop an entry for Silent Hill, but plans failed and the deal was never signed. The Silent Hill in development in Japan would also be a departure from the series’ familiar gameplay, which might explain why Konami has also opted for another more traditional reboot idea.

Bloober Team recently confirmed that they are looking to add more combat mechanics to their next title, after The Medium relied solely on exploration and puzzle solving. Considering The Medium’s similarity to Silent Hill in its presentation, it’s not hard to imagine Bloober taking on the long-dormant franchise next.
