Regulators approved a plan backed by Silicon Valley heavyweights to launch a new scholarship that would interest young technology companies.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has approved the long-term stock market's request to become a national stock exchange, according to an order posted on the agency's website Friday. Among the investors in LTSE are Peter Thiel's Founders Fund, venture capital Marc Andreessen and a venture capital firm co-founded by Ev Williams, former CEO of Twitter Inc.
