Today, out of nowhere, a new trailer for Diablo II: Resurrected came out and it’s really different. For starters, it’s live action and it also features Marvel star Simu Liu, as “Sinner.”
In the trailer, Liu plays an unnamed man (possibly the player character?) Seeking permission from some sort of priest to commit acts of sin against the Lord of Terror, Diablo, believing that the only one way to overcome darkness is to descend itself into darkness.
The trailer is pretty short and there’s not much else than what I’ve described, but it’s still a nifty little video to get players excited for release in two days.
The timing of this trailer’s release is a bit unfortunate for Activision-Blizzard, however, as Liu is going through a bit of controversy this week. Some people claim to have dug up a Reddit account of Liu who claims to have been arsonist; claims Liu has yet to firmly deny or confirm, but appeared to acknowledge. True or not, it’s a bit awkward all around, especially since Activision-Blizzard is currently fixing some issues.
I can’t imagine the answer to whether or not Liu said that stuff messed up on Reddit in the past will have much influence on how people enjoy Diablo II: Resurrected, however, when it launches on September 23 on all major consoles and PCs. So just enjoy the trailer below, or not, it’s up to you.
The reaction to the trailer has been mostly positive if likes / dislikes are anything to go by. Although there is a higher percentage of Aversions than what you would normally find in your average promotional material.
