BASEL, Aug. 25 – Pusarla Sindhu won the first Indian title at the World Badminton Championships by comfortably beating Japan's Nozomi Okuhara 21-7 21-7 to win the women's singles in Basel.

Sindhu also put an end to his unfortunate race after his defeat in the last two World Finals, including one against Okuhara in 2017, as well as the 2016 Olympic Final and the Commonwealth Games final of last year.

The 24-year-old ranked fifth in the world, he never lost time after taking an eight-point lead in the first game.

"Last time, I lost the final. Previously, I also lost the final, so it's very important for me to win now, "she said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered congratulations on Twitter.

Kento Momota of Japan retained the men's title, beating Denmark's Anders Antonsen of 22, who surprised Olympic champion Chen Long in the quarter-final 21-9 21-3 in another one-way match.

The world number one needs only 37 minutes to send his opponent, become the fourth man to win successive world titles.
