KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday (July 3rd) called on those who know or suspect that funds from 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) have entered their accounts to voluntarily surrender or cope with them to prosecution.
MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull said all of these funds are public funds and must be returned immediately.
Holders of these accounts should go to MACC and prove that 1MDB funds "We will collect all this money and return it to the people," he said.
He also stated that all accounts suspected of being related to 1MDB would be frozen immediately for this purpose.
Shukri stated that to date no notice had been given before freezing these accounts
"It is pointless to do this because it will warn account holders.
"The MACC has sufficient evidence that the money that went into their accounts is from 1MDB and any person involved will be sued against them by confiscating or prosecuting their property", a-
Shukri did not rule out the possibility of other accounts being frozen.
He advised people whose accounts had been frozen to call MACC and return
Shukri also said that the MACC had received encouraging co-operation from several countries where the money trail had been detected, such as Singapore, Switzerland and the United States.
Task Force 1MDB declared that 408 com bank loans totaling RM 1.1 billion were frozen on June 26 and 29. These accounts belonged to individuals, political parties and NGOs
On Tuesday, the working group confirmed that former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had been arrested in relation to the investigation.
