The City Harvest Church case, which is the biggest fraud case in Singapore involving charitable funds, has shown further improvement. Two men, who helped convicted Chew Eng Han during his escape from the country, were finally sentenced to prison on Friday, July 13th.
The first convict, 53-year-old Tan Poh Teck, was sentenced to 27 weeks in jail for his involvement as a boatman, who helped Chew flee the country on February 21 at around 8:47 am. The Malaysian man, Tan Kim Ho, 42, was sentenced to six months in jail while he was helping Chew, 58, leave Singapore for Malaysia by boat.
Police arrested boatman Tan Poh on February 21st. Chew, who is currently serving his prison term, while Tan Kim was captured by the Malaysian police in his own country and later in April, he was handed over to the Singapore authorities.
At the hearing on Friday, Tan Poh pleaded guilty to encouraging Chew to flee the country from Pulau Ubin Pier, which is an illegal embarkation site. The court heard that he was supposed to take Chew to the northeastern part of Pulau Ubin, where he would take another boat that would take him to Malaysian soil.

However, Chew began his three-year prison term for breach of trust and falsification of accounts. On March 1, 53-year-old founder Kong Hee was found guilty of embezzling $ 50 million worth of money. While all involved City Harvest leaders have already started their prison term, Chew was the last to serve his sentence.
