Mercedes-Benz is working on a redesign of its GLS (formerly the GL-Class). This time, an ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach model will challenge the Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and potentially from Aston Martin. Lagonda brand.

The redesigned Mercedes GLS and this Maybach variant are based on a stretched version of the Mercedes MHA platform for larger GLC size SUVs (excluding the G-Class). The platform is closely linked to the Mercedes MRA platform found in most of the automaker's sedans and coupes, which debuted in the GLC.
It's too early to talk about powertrains, but expect that a bi-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 will be the Maybach PU. A hybrid plug-in option should also be available.

The new Mercedes GLS is expected to debut this month at the 2018 LA Auto Show as a 2020 model. The Maybach variant will likely follow next year as a 2021 model. of all GLS variants will be provided by the Mercedes plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where the current GLS is being built.
