Do not write for Auckland's ASB Classic at the moment

News ATP revives the Team World Cup in January 2020 raised fears that existing ATP tournaments before The Australian Open is penalized in terms of attraction

The tournament will involve 24 teams of two players who would play throughout Australia in the first week of January with an impressive amount $ 15 million in price and ranking points available.

The Team World Cup was played in Düsseldorf from 1978 to 2012 before the French Open

The Auckland ASB Classic takes place on the first two weeks of the season with the women's event of the WTA before the ATP tournament for men the week before the Open of Australia.

The female event will not be affected by the move of the ATP as it is not expected to organize a format similar to that of the Team World Cup on the female circuit.

The ATP World Cup will be held during Brisbane Week. International, Doha International and Pune ATP tournaments and there will definitely be an impact on their fields. But there is still a lot to see.

Doha for example has big pockets and I expect that they will continue to get big names.

The ASB Classic could potentially partner with a tournament like Doha to secure players. Some countries at the Team World Cup will not have two best players.

Take the example of Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria. It's likely that he could be eliminated early in the week and will want more match play in the second week. On the other hand, countries like the United States, Spain and France have more than two players ranked among the top 50 and all will be unable or unwilling to play the ATP World Cup.

Auckland and Sydney are the only tournaments sanctioned by the ATP the week before the Open of Australia. Over the past decade, less than half of the top 20 players have played these tournaments the week before the Australian Open and Auckland has generally been more successful than Sydney in attracting top players.

The other point in favor of events like the ASB Classic is its format is the same as Grand Slams, but the best of the three sets. The final format of the Team World Cup is not known but the initial reports have players traveling all around Australia. This is not the best preparation for the Open of Australia.

It is simply too early to suggest that the ASB Classic is on unstable ground, and given the reputation of the ASB Classic World Tennis Landscape.
