SINGAPORE – A Singaporean armed forces nurse and his wife, a nurse, were congratulated after intervening to help an unconscious man on a flight they made on Friday, July 6. ME1 Lam Guo Wei instructor and his wife Audrey Chia were en route to Japan aboard a Singapore Airlines flight, when they noticed that a man had been fainted outside the toilet, said the Singapore Army in a Facebook message Monday night. ] ME1 Lam and Ms Chia immediately moved the man to a larger part of the plane, where they provided medical assistance. The couple checked the vital signs of the man and questioned the man about his medical history, with an air hostess acting as an interpreter.
A Japanese doctor on the same flight then passed after the human condition had stabilized. After receiving an update from the man of ME1 Lam, the doctor deduced that no emergency landing was necessary, said the Singapore Army in his message.
Netizens quickly greeted the act of the couple.
The Facebook user, Jason Yeo, said: "I've seen this guy during my internships and he's one of the reservist physician coaches … a great coach."
ME1 Lam and Ms. Chia posted online by another Facebook user, John Lin, who was traveling with the couple. Mr. Lin told the Straits Times that the couple were going to Japan for a photoshoot before the wedding.
In a Facebook post posted on Friday, Mr. Lin said that a passenger had suddenly fainted in the middle of the flight. The photos uploaded by Mr. Lin showed the couple squatting on a man with an oxygen mask attached to his mouth.
He posted: "Our clients, who are qualified medical professionals, went into action as if it were second nature.
"To see them save a life in real time, while the husband and wife were an awesome experience."
ST contacted the Singapore Armed Forces for more information.
