Sunday night, a grounding in the Suez Canal led to a pile-up of several ships. The container ship Aeneas reportedly failed and three bulkers who followed it in the convoy collided. Boxship was not involved in the collision itself, and she was bailed out and towed to Suez.
The bulkers involved in the multiple collision were named as Sakizaya Kalon, Panamax Alexander and Osios David. After the ships were cleared and towed, the northbound container ship NYK Orpheus had a separate collision with the Panamax Alexander.
Separately, the crude oil tanker Kimolos (IMO 9791145) failed briefly in the canal on Saturday before collisions. In addition, an unnamed bulldozer of 39.929 dwt and a draft of about 12.2 meters stranded Monday, according to the GAC. According to the authority of the Suez Canal, the bulker was refloated the same evening and arrived at the Great Lakes Bitter on Tuesday morning.
Multiple losses have led to delays for dozens of vessels north and south, but the waterway is now ready for transits to resume, according to the SCA. The GAC reports that the authority has not yet released a schedule for transits for all affected vessels.
Aeneas and NYK Orpheus both continued their journeys, according to their AIS signals. Tuesday evening, Kimolos, Sakizaya Kalon and Panamax Alexander remained at anchor near Suez.
