SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Health is studying the potential cause of food poisoning at CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh), after about 200 students have developed gastrointestinal symptoms.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) said that he was informed Thursday 19) "of a food poisoning incident" at the school. As of July 20, about 200 students had developed gastrointestinal symptoms, adds the Ministry of Health.
"Investigations are under way to determine the potential source of this incident". Gastrointestinal symptoms may include abdominal pain, diarrhea and nausea.
None of the affected students were hospitalized and most returned to school, said school principal Karen Tay, in response to Channel NewsAsia's questions.
"The school monitors the situation and works with the relevant government agencies to determine the cause of the symptoms," she said.
As a precaution, the students' classrooms and toilets on the school premises were cleaned and disinfected, Tay said.
In April, Nanyang Girls High School suspended its boarding program after about 110 students fell ill with diarrhea and stomach aches.
Students housed at the Nanyang Girls' Internship as part of a four-week program for the Secondary II cohort to learn to live independently.
In January, 14 students from Northland High School in Yishun were rushed to hospital after suffering from vomiting and stomach pain.
