The turnaround of Formula 1 at the German Grand Prix could make Lewis Hamilton "unbeatable" as did the Singapore events last year, estimates Jacques Villeneuve, world champion of 1997.

Last weekend, Sebastian Vettel looked set to win the world championship title, while he was leading from pole while Hamilton had to settle for 14th place, but Hamilton finished top with 17 points. a shock victory after Vettel crashed in the late rain.
Villeneuve compared this swing to Singapore last September, when Hamilton won it on a weekend when Mercedes was struggling and Vettel was eliminated during an accident at the first round involving Ferrari teammate Kimi Raikkonen and Max Verstappen of Red Bull.
Hamilton had 28 points in advance and by the end of the following month he had sealed the 2017 title with two races to go.
"The effect could be similar to Singapore last year," Villeneuve told Autosport.
"Lewis completely depressed, [thinks] everyone hates him and so on.C was his attitude even before the race. His comments were completely down.
"And he gave this, 25 points, that's what happened in Singapore, if I remember correctly.
"And from Singapore he was unbeatable, he had this mentality for three or four races that no one could beat him.
"Maybe that's what we will get now, it was expensive [for Vettel] and this may push Lewis into a very positive state of mind."
Although Villeneuve admits that the Vettel crash at Hockenheim was "useless because he had his head and that the head was on his teammate", he said that the error was completely understandable in the Difficult conditions.
"It's a very easy mistake to make – you never know how much water there is," he said.
"You are the leader, when you are P2 or P3, you see the leader, you see the others, Kimi slowed down.
"It's easy to tell from the outside" what a stupid mistake "[But] it's so easy to make in this kind of conditions."
Villeneuve also rejected any complaint about Mercedes asking Valtteri Bottas not to attack Hamilton for the lead in the final stages of the race.
"Why should people be upset?" he said. "The teams are trying to win the championship, they are doing the right thing.
"You are obliged to have both cars with exactly the same sponsors, if you could have both cars completely different, then you could not impose team orders.
"But there is no way to ban them when the stakes are so high."
