SINGAPORE: One of the seven suspects arrested as a result of an incident on the Serangoon Highway was taken to the Lower Peirce Dam by police on Thursday, July 26 to help search for drugs. a samurai sword that would be one of the weapons used in the attack.
The suspect, Arjun Retnavelu, aged 24, was taken to the tank to indicate where he would have thrown the sword into the water.
The sword was one of the weapons used to hack a 27 year old victim to the back of his head, body, hands and legs , before the suspects end up in a car.
A total of seven men were arrested, police said Thursday. Channel NewsAsia understands that Arjun was one of six suspects arrested at Blk 26 Sin Ming Industrial Estate while the remaining suspect was arrested near Corporation Road.
Two commercial divers accompanied police and the suspect to Lower Pierce Reservoir to recover the sword. They were seen setting up a buoy to mark a search area before diving.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the suspect allegedly wrapped the sword in an orange cloth before throwing it at about 4 pm on Wednesday.
It is suspected that all suspects are under investigation for riots and that they are armed with a deadly weapon. If found guilty, they could be jailed for up to 10 years and caned.
