Bolton Says Discussed Khusyaynova's US Elections Interference Charges With Patrushev

US National Security Adviser John Bolton said on Monday that he had discussed the US election interference charges brought against Russian citizen Elena Khusyaynova during his meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev earlier in the day.

Bolton told the Ekho Moskvy radio station that he understood Russian stance on the issue.

He added that he did not believe that Khusyaynova’s interference could have any effect on the election, but even the desire to meddle into the US inner affairs triggered mistrust to Russia and to Russian nationals.

Bolton went on to say that Russian interference into the US elections was inadmissible and could not be tolerated.

On October 19, US Justice Department said it had charged Khusyaynova with conspiracy to meddle in the upcoming 2018 US midterm elections.Prosecutors claim Khusyaynova served as a senior accountant of Project Lakhta allegedly funded by businessman Yevgeniy Prigozhin who is currently designated under US financial sanctions. According to the prosecutors’ claims, Khusyaynova was in charge of financial documents that describe in detail expenses for activities in the United States, including advertisements on social media networks, registration of domain Names, and spending on activists.
