SINGAPORE – The groom on online photos of a wedding party, whose members resemble candidates for the election of the People's Action Party (PAP), said that the idea behind their white outfits had been thrown by friends close to his penchant for expressing his opinions.
Entrepreneur Benny Ong, 32, told The Straits Times on Sunday, October 28: "My friends know me because I'm an authoritative and opinionated person, and I'm interested in becoming a member. of Parliament.
"Logistically, (the dress code) was not difficult to remove … My wife and I thought it sounded good and it would be fun." His wife is the owner of a business, Rachel Tan, 27 years old.
A photo of Mr. Ong's gatecrash evening in Canberra in the Yishun-Sembawang area was posted by him on Facebook on Friday. She shows him and eight of his friends dressed in white shirts and short-sleeved pants. Some of them, including Mr. Ong, wear garlands of flowers. Several members of the group also carry placards imitating campaign posters, wearing a logo made up of a circle and an exclamation point in a color scheme similar to the PAP logo.
A gatecrash evening refers to a pre-wedding event in which the groom and the honor boys participate in a series of challenges presented by the maidens of honor. Men will have to complete the challenges before the groom can see the bride.
Mr. Ong said his friends had the idea of the gatecrash party theme about a month ago. The simulated outfits and campaign posters were prepared in the two days leading up to her wedding on Friday.
He added that the signage logo, designed with the help of Microsoft Power Point, was different from the PAP logo, in that he did not want to accidentally break the rights of the original logo.
The entrepreneur said that he was particularly interested in becoming a voice for the education system, so he was offered the opportunity to become an NMP while he was "much older".
A person is qualified to be named PNP if she is Singaporean, 21 years of age or older and registered in the current register of electors.
In particular, he must be able to take an active part in the work of Parliament, speak and, unless he can not be blinded or any other physical cause, read and write at least one of the official languages: English, Malay, Mandarin or Tamil.
The NMP system was introduced in 1990 to provide alternative voices to Parliament, with seven groups invited to nominate suitable candidates. In addition to attracting the attention of netizens, the photo of Mr. Ong's gatecrash party also drew comments from Nee Soon RCMP deputies, K. Shanmugam and Louis Ng, who all two congratulations on Facebook.
