Angela Lee, world champion Atomweight women, is one of the most inspiring personalities in the ONE Championship lineup.
The success of this 22-year-old woman in the cage has led her to become a model for millions of people, but in reality she was a role model long before her mixed martial arts career began.
Lee has a younger sister and two younger brothers, including one of the featherweight contenders, Christian "The Warrior" Lee.
She did not know it at the time, but the experience of setting a good example to her brothers and sister helped her acquire the valuable life skills that helped her in her life. as an influential athlete today.
"I've never really thought of it that way, but I guess it's something that really came naturally," she says.
"To be the eldest of four [children]I have always been with my parents and I have always helped take care of children. My parents always told me to give the example, so this fits my career.
"I know I can not go out and ridicule myself on my social networks and party. Anyway, that's not really part of my personality, but I know there are a lot of people [looking up to me].
"This responsibility is something that I embrace and want to do my best. I'm always looking for ways to help people. If I can work outside the cage one day, I always try to do it because that's what I feel I've been put here, and I love it. "
Lee says that she sees her brothers and sisters as friends as well as brothers and sisters. His bond with his brother and fellow Christian ONE is obvious whenever one or the other of them participates.
"Christian and I are so tight. We're only two years apart, so we practically grew up side by side, "says Lee.
"It's crazy, it's too cool to be on the same path and live the same things.
"The time we spent together growing up is a little abnormal compared to a normal sibling, so we have a really special connection.
"Being around Christian taught me a lot – being a better martial artist, being a better person. When I go there and train and do what I want, I always try to set a good example. "
As Angela and Christian are now considered legitimate stars of the world's largest martial arts organization, it has been helpful for them to hold each other in their place to keep them firmly anchored and to ensure that their fame does not fall to their heads.
"We talk a lot about it – so we do not lose ourselves in all this glory and this star of a professional hunter. It helps to have your family around you to stay rooted, "she adds.
"With Christian, that's something I always talk about with him. One day he will be a great champion and he will always be his kind man. That's why it's so important to maintain this close relationship, to be able to speak in everyone's life and to receive [advice] from each of them. "
Lee's family is based on martial arts and his relationship with Christian extends to helping each other on mats.
Whether it's a drilling technique or comparing notes on new skills they have learned, they are always present for each other.
"We are constantly learning from each other. It's the coolest thing, "says Lee.
"Just this morning, we finished training and I said," Hey Christian, look at that cool thing I found. You can make this position from here. It was like: 'Angela, I discovered it last month and I also showed you.'
"We are so synchronized and we are so much on the same page that we are always discovering new techniques and want to share them with each other."
Everyone gets involved every time a family member is ready for the competition, and now the family unites behind Angela as she prepares for her next fight with world champion Xiong Jing Nan straw for a woman, at ONE: HEART OF THE LION.
Nothing would make Lee happier than to make his family proud on November 9 with victory – and a second world title – in Singapore.
"I just want them to do their best and do everything I can to help them achieve their goals," says Lee.
"Everything is from the heart."
