SDP proposes radically that the apartments can be resold to HDB, and a policy of "Singapore foremost" in employment

In a video released yesterday, the Democratic Party of Singapore (SDP) proposed several solutions to many problems, such as the depreciation of the Housing Development Board (HDB) leases, the rising cost of living and the influx of many foreigners.

The video featured members of the SDP such as its president, Professor Paul Anantharajah Tambyah, its vice president, John Tan Liang Joo, and his secretary general, Dr. Chee Soon Juan.

Unopened market system

The list of proposed solutions begins with a solution to solve the problem of the loss of HDB value as they approach the end of their 99-year leases. They suggested an unopened market system, in which HDB apartments are billed at cost, without including the cost of the land. They also add that owners of apartments not open to the market can resell their apartments to HDB and that any amount minus the lease not consumed will be returned.

Singaporeans policy first and foremost

The SDP also proposed a "Singaporeans First" policy, whereby foreigners wishing to work in Singapore will have to be placed on a list provided they meet strict qualification and criteria requirements. This is only after employers can demonstrate that they have exhausted all possibilities to find a local and are still unable to do so. They can use a stranger on the list.

Departmental salaries

Among the other policies, the SDP suggested that MPs be paid ten times the average salary of Singaporeans in the last percentile and that ministers receive three times the amount of their MPs' allowance. They also said that the Prime Minister should only be paid four times more than the MP allowance.

According to their recommendations, they said the prime minister would receive $ 56,000 a month and ministers $ 42,000 a month. Currently, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's salary is about $ 183,000 a month.

Mr Damahuri Abas also proposed that a minimum wage law be implemented in Singapore.

Whether the proposed solutions are realistic or achievable, their video addresses a multitude of issues.
