Along with iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in 2016, Apple also introduced its AirPods wireless earbuds in 2016. It’s been a little over two years since then, but the Cupertino-based technology major still hasn’t outed an updated version of the earbuds. Apple has had two major events in the second-half of this year, where many were expecting AirPods 2 to go official, but that obviously didn’t happen.
As of now, there’s no definitive official information regarding when (if ever) the second-generation Apple AirPods will be launched. However, if a recent tweet by reliable tipster Ice universe (@UniverseIce) is to be believed, that may very well happen this year.
Apple will definitely launch AirPods 2 this year.

Going by the tweet, it seems the tipster’s information is quite solid. That said, Apple’s major launches for this year are all wrapped up. So even if AirPods 2 (assuming that’s what they are going to be called) are still on track for a 2018 launch, it’s quite possible that Apple will go for a soft launch, since holding a dedicated event for launching an audio accessory seems a bit futile.
For now, it seems that all Apple fans can do is wait and see if the second-generation AirPods finally go official this year or not.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple AirPods 2 have been rumored for quite a while now. Earlier this year, a report mentioned that Apple is considering turning the charging case of the AirPods into a Bluetooth speaker, citing a patent filed by the technology major.
