It was a bad week for the Galaxy S10. After weeks of positive leaks highlighting exciting, first changes in the industry, it looks like design will polarize the opinion, facial recognition dump and kill the headphone jack. In one official release, Samsung announced the new generation Exynos 9820 chipset, which will equip the Galaxy S10. And this is Samsung's biggest upgrade for years.
The announcement is that the Exynos 9820 offers a significant 40% increase in energy efficiency and graphics performance compared to the Exynos 9810, which drives the Galaxy S9 and Note 9. It also offers significant enhancements to Connectivity with compatibility for 4G speeds up to 2 Gbps (via operators) and 4×4 MIMO for ultra-fast WiFi.
The Exynos 9820 also offers Herculean performance, allowing the recording of 4K videos at 150 frames per second (ips) in 10-bit color. Currently, 60 frames per second is the best any smartphone can handle.
Samsung is also promoting the artificial intelligence prowess of the new Neural Processing Unit (NPU) on the chipset. The company says it's 7 times faster than last year's ANP, but since Samsung did not provide figures for last year's ANP, it's hard to quantify. A faster NPU, however, has the potential to dramatically improve the camera as well as augmented reality and virtual reality performance.
But there is a sobering element.

That said, given Apple's gaping performance gap in recent years, the fact that Samsung can pretty much fill it in a single generation is impressive. Samsung also insists that the Exynos 9820 is ready to be used: mass production should begin "by the end of the year".
All this fits perfectly with the anticipated launch of the Galaxy S10 and its new "cutting" Infinity-O screen. Samsung will also be able to pair the Exynos 9820 with his own 5G modem and at least a Galaxy S10 model will get it.
