A traffic police inspector (TP) who molested four subordinates while they were serving their national service as special constables was sentenced to 16 months and nine weeks in prison yesterday.

Mohd Taufik Abu Bakar, who is married and now 56, was chief of the investigation team shot when he committed the offenses between January and September 2015.

In February of this year, District Judge Jasvender Kaur found him guilty of six outrages of modesty. She acquitted him of a molestation charge involving a fifth special constable.

Police told the Straits Times that Taufik is no longer with the Singapore Police (SPF). He joined the TP Investigation Division in 1998 and became the head of the investigation team sent off five years later.

He was suspended from service on August 23, 2016 and retired on May 10,

The Court learned that on September 10, 2015, Taufik approached a 21-year-old special constable to file a complaint. about his body odor and said that he had cream that could remove the hair from his underarms and groin.

Two days later, Taufik invited the young man to his apartment, and told him how to use it. He took the man home the next day.

When the man was naked in the restroom, Taufik burst in and applied the depilatory cream to the intimate parts of the man. After removing the cream, he smeared the man with a body scrub and further molested him.

The Special Constable testified that he had the impression that "the whole world had collapsed on him, so all he was doing was complying." Taufik texted him and said, "Let me know if you feel lonely and you need me to accompany you, you can stay at home, too."

Taufik also molested three other special agents at TP headquarters. Between January and July 2015, he placed his right hand around the waist of a 24 year old man and brought him closer.

He assaulted another 21-year-old man between June and July of this year by hitting his right buttock. He also outraged the modesty of a 22-year-old special agent

. The offenses were revealed on September 16, 2015, when the man he had invited home told the 22-year-old victim what had happened. The two men then spoke to a trainee inspector from Nova Scotia about their ordeal.

Police told The Straits Times: "SPF takes a zero-tolerance approach to agents who break the law and will treat them harshly. We will not hesitate to expel them from their posts either.

Offenders convicted of assault can be jailed for up to two years and fined or fined for each charge. Taufik can not be beaten because he is over 50 years old.
