Alex Ferguson speaks publicly for the first time since brain surgery to thank hospital staff

Former Manchester United director, Alex Ferguson, thanked the hospital staff after an emergency surgery in May following cerebral hemorrhage

. was transported to the Macclesfield District Hospital. He was then taken to another hospital in Salford where he was operated on.

"Hello, just a little message, first to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra Hospitals," Ferguson said in a video. "Believe me, without these people, who have given me so much care, I would not be sitting here today, so thank you from me and my family, thank you very much."

"That I made myself feel so humble, like all the messages I've received from all over the world, wishing me the best. And good wishes resonate very, very strongly with me.

"So thanks for that support you gave me."

Ferguson had appeared on the grounds of Old Trafford just days before suffering a brain injury, handing over to former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger a commemorative trophy.

Mourinho's United will play later in the season.

"I'll be back later in the season to watch the team," said Ferguson

"Meanwhile, all the best for Jose and the players … a lot."

Ferguson was United director from 1986 to 2013, winning twice the Champions League, the Premier League 13 times and five FA Cups.
