Researchers warn of a decline in the health of the population.
Scientists from the Institute of atmospheric physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that heat waves will occur more often because of the actions of global warming will affect the health of the population worldwide.
In the study, researchers analyzed the responses 4363 respondents who participated in the survey in 2016. The aim of the survey was to determine how the heat affected the productivity of the respondents. In the result, it was found that heat waves resulted in the loss of 6.6 working day in developing countries and 3.5 of the working day – in developed. At the same time, the most affected regions were Central Asia and Northern Europe.
The researchers also calculated how a rise in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere will affect the number of lost labor days. When the temperature increases to 1.5, 2, 3 and four degrees Celsius, developed countries will lose 9, 12, 22 and 33 days, respectively, and developing – 19, 31, 61 and 94 days, respectively. The researchers note that the countries of South-East Asia for a warming of 1.5 degrees Celsius will experience the same reduction in the productivity of labour of developed countries for a warming of four degrees.
