SINGAPORE: Flash floods hit parts of Singapore, including Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang, on Saturday night (10 November) due to heavy rains.
Floods have been reported along Choa Chu Kang Road up to Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, as well as near the Bukit Batok Driving Center and a gas station located along from Bukit Batok Avenue West Avenue 5, according to the National Water Agency PUB.
"Several places in Singapore have experienced heavy rainfall tonight, with about 100 mm of rain recorded in about 1.5 hours from 16:40 to 18:00 at Bukit Panjang," said PUB. "This represents about 40% of the average monthly rainfall in November."
PUB officers were on the scene of the floods to "investigate and bring help," said the agency.
He added: "The inter-monsoon conditions have settled in Singapore and the surrounding area since the end of October 2018 and are expected to persist until mid-November 2018."
Photos on social media showed roads filled with muddy water. On one of the photos, one could see a woman who stood along Choa Chu Kang Avenue 1, the water level almost reaching the knees.
Mr. Lawrence Lau, who lives at Bukit Batok West Avenue 5, told Channel NewsAsia that it was the first time he saw the area affected by sudden floods.
The photos and videos shared by the regional safety and security officer showed muddy waters covering the ground of an empty bridge. Flood waters could also be seen on the roads of the region.
Mr Lau added that he had seen clean PUB employees in the area.
"The PUB arrived around 6 pm The workers cleared the mud," he said. The cleaning was still underway around 11 pm, he added.
Earlier this month, the Singapore Meteorological Service (MSS) forecast more rainy weather during the first half of November, with moderate to heavy storms.
These are mainly expected in the afternoon and could last a few days in the evening, said MSS. One can also expect frequent flashes, he adds.
