SELLERS have a matter of weeks to capitalize on the influx of southern migrants to a new life in the Far North.
Although listings have been reported in Saturday's Weekend Post, historically the phones of these real estate agents are starting to hit the mark.
Elite Real Estate Services sales director Karl Latham said he was asked for properties "across the board" from buyers migrating north.
"This last quarter was a lot slower than we saw last year. "It was a good, but we are beginning to get a lot more inquiry," he said.
"There are real buyers out there, especially people with families who are moving to the medical industry, education or banking.
"We have had a few people from Brisbane and Melbourne looking – they are the hot pockets for people relocating.
"We have heard from people from Tasmania and some expats from Singapore and they're really here for the lifestyle. These people are looking for family homes. "
Mr Latham said properties on the Esplanade were high on the wishlist of newcomers, but Palm Cove and Clifton Beach were close behind.
"There's only one Esplanade, restaurants," he said.
"People want to take advantage of this time before Christmas. We've got six weekends of open homes left before the start of the season. They want to get in and settle on their new home over the holidays. "
The Cairns statistical region, extending from Cardwell to the Daintree, is home to 240,190 people up almost 16,000 since 2011.
In July buyers' agency Cairns was among 33 regional locations where population growth was outstripping the capital cities.
