Chevrolet has been really trying to keep up with the Joneses lately, especially with the Mustang is now the top dog in the pony car segment. The Camaro has been lagging behind in sales, and in speed, but new engine options may change that.
Chevrolet has been polling current owners over what engines they would likely purchase in the new Camaro, and in between some hypothetical hybrids was a 2.7-liter turbo-oven that would most likely serve as the base model option. This engine sounds very similar to the one in the Silverado, which would mean a big power increase.
Camaro6 forums, the 2.7-liter engine is rated at 310 horsepower, which eclipses the current 2.0 liter by 35 horses. It's said to accelerate the Camaro from zero to 96 km / h in 5.2 seconds.
An upgrade to 310 horsepower would have it in the realm of Ford's 2.3-liter EcoBoost, which also makes 310 horsepower. The no-premium option is also said to get 25 miles per gallon (9.4 L / 100 km).
Some interesting hybrid options have been mentioned in the survey, which may not coincidentally appear just as Ford plans to reveal its own hybrid version of the Mustang, rumored to be about 400-horsepower and its 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine.
The updates to the Camaro are welcome as the Mustang and Challenger are pulling away in sales. Hopefully, small upgrades here and there will be a lot of fun.
