A security guard supposed to provide security for residents of a cadre condominium in Choa Chu Kang would have instead broken into a unit, assaulted one of its occupants and threatened with a pair of scissors.
The police mobilized around 50 police officers to search for the suspect and caught him six hours after arriving at the scene.
The security officer reportedly entered a Wandervale CE unit early yesterday morning, the Chinese language daily Lianhe Wanbao reported.
Hearing movements at her home, an elderly resident of the unit would have decided to investigate her grandchild 's room, where her maid also slept.
She told Wanbao that she had found the intruder lying on her maid and threatening her with a pair of scissors. The housekeeper had cut her clothes and asked for help, she added.
The elderly resident, who did not wish to be named, stated that the man had then fled and escaped through the front door while "there was no escape". she was looking for help from her neighbors.
The police told the Straits Times she was alerted that a woman was being molested at 365 Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 at 5:37 am.
A 32 year old man was arrested in connection with the case. The Straits Times understands that he is Singaporean.
In a statement last night, police said officers from the Jurong Police Division and the Special Operations Command (SOC) arrested the man in the residential unit's car park at 11:40.
The man will be charged in court today with serious indignation, police said. If he is found guilty, he could be jailed between two and ten years and be beaten.
A resident of Wandervale, who did not wish to be named, estimated that there were up to 50 police officers and 17 vehicles at the EC, including four from the CSO.
The Straits Times understands that the large number of deployed officers, including members of the SOC, had to adequately cover the entire area of the property.
Information on the SRX real estate portal indicates that Wandervale has 36 blocks with 534 units. He obtained his temporary occupation permit in March.
