MELBOURNE: Drummer Ben McDermott was added to the international team one day from Australia before the second match against South Africa as injury cover for Shaun Marsh, who missed the first match of Perth because of a diaper abscess.

Rookie McDermott, the son-in-law of former testman Craig McDermott, could make his debut at ODI if Marsh did not recover in time for his second match in Adelaide on Friday.

"We will continue to monitor Shaun's progress and give him every chance to prove his form before the match," coach Trevor Hohns said in a statement on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old made his international debut in a Twenty20 match against the UAE last month and played the three Australian T20 defeats against Pakistan in the Gulf nation.

Australia's Aaron Finch lost the opening match one day against South Africa by six wickets at Perth Stadium. The third and final game will be held in Hobart on November 11th.
