Daily weighing can lead to weight loss

Between strict diets and getting into the gym, it can be hard to stay motivated to try to lose a few pounds.

But new discoveries should be presented in Chicago at Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association 2018 suggest that there is a small habit that can help you lose weight: weighing daily.

Recruiting 1,042 adults (78% male, 90% white, and an average age of 47), the researchers analyzed their self-weighing habits to determine if their weight was over 12 months.

Their weighing habits were self-reported without the help of the author's team, without advice, interventions or incentives for weight loss.

After receiving the data, the scientists created categories based on how often the participants appeared on the scales.

The results showed that those who weighed six to seven times a week lost the most weight (1.7%) in twelve months. Meanwhile, those who have never walked on the scale have seen no weight loss.

Research suggests that, by continually weighing, the person is able to understand how their different behaviors affect their weight loss and weight gain. These conclusions are corroborated by previous reports by authors of Drexel University and University of Pennsylvania
