Livingston striker Dolly Menga has accepted a two-game ban for aiming a headbutt at Celtic forward Ryan Christie.
The Angolan was caught on camera pushing his head into the face of the Hoops playmaker during Sunday’s 0-0 draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
The incident was missed by referee Kevin Clancy but Menga has now been punished after the incident was raised by Scottish Football Association compliance officer Clare Whyte.
Under the Hampden fast-track disciplinary complaints procedure, the incident was reviewed by three former referees who all agreed the incident merited a red card and Menga has now accepted a charge of violent conduct.
The 25-year-old scored the winner against Rangers when the sides met at the end of September but will now miss the Lions’ trip to Ibrox on November 24 as well as Motherwell’s visit to West Lothian a week later.
The outcome will satisfy Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, who believed Menga should have been dismissed at the time.
Speaking after the game, the Parkhead manager said: “He should have been sent off. I thought so in real time.
“I thought he gestured his head towards Ryan and when I saw it after the game it was actually more aggressive than I thought and he was very, very lucky to stay on the pitch.
“If he goes down it doesn’t matter if the referee hasn’t seen it. I assume he hasn’t seen it so if he goes down or not it doesn’t matter.
“It wasn’t a great action by the player so you can only assume all the officials haven’t seen it.”
