Manila: Ceres Negros beat Global Cebu 6-1 to win a second consecutive Philippine League football title at Rizal Memorial Stadium on Wednesday, emerging champions with three games to play.

Ceres was unstoppable in the 2018 season, having won 17 of 22 games played, shooting three times and losing only twice.

Their achievement gives them a place in the preliminary stage of the 2019 AFC Champions League, or direct qualification for next year's AFC Cup should not qualify for the continent's first club tournament

Bienvenido Marañon scored a hat-trick as Mike Ott, Omid Nazari and Blake Powell added one for Negros. Marvin Angeles scored the lone goal for Cebu

Both teams were equally aggressive early in the game, Darryl Roberts forcing debutant Roland Muller to a good stop while Global's Alvin Sarmiento needed to clear the lead. Mike Ott. It was in the 23rd minute when the Busmen opened the scoring after Manny Ott found Marañon, who hit a left foot in the lower corner. Global had a good chance a few minutes later but Richard Talaroc shook his goal attempt

Mike Ott doubled the advantage in the 35th when he beautifully hit the 20-meter ball to beat the goalkeeper. A few minutes later, Omid Nazari scored another astonishing goal when he passed from the other side of the area to equalize 3-0

Global Cebu made the experience interesting after the break when Marvin Angeles clinched the first pole to beat Muller. The Cebu team had another chance at the hour of play when Daniel Gadia broke the trap to establish a confrontation with Muller. The repatriated Ceres, however, had other ideas when he made a footing on Gadia's attempt

Ceres-Negros was sanctioned in the 67th minute after Patrick Reichelt was victim of a fault of Ian Lee. Marañon made a gesture for the penalty but his kick-off attempt was blocked by Badelic. The Spanish striker would not be deprived of a few minutes later, taking advantage of a defensive mistake to score his second goal.

The Busmen were given a new penalty on Powell after trying to dodge the guardian in the area. The Australian striker did not cheat on the spot to score the fifth goal of Ceres

Ceres completed the score in the 88th minute when Mike Ott crossed the goal line and Marañon tapped for the third

"It feels good," said Ott Man of the Match. "We want to play hard and try to win every game, we are really happy that we have finished with the title and look forward to the next match of the AFC Cup."
