Driver sentenced to one week in prison for an accident that led to the cleaning lady being thrown from her car

SINGAPORE: A driver who was involved in a traffic accident and had his maid deported was sentenced to one week in prison on Friday, July 20th.

Noel Loh Hwei Ming, 38, was driving the ramp from East Coast Parkway to Bayshore Road on February 7, 2016 when the incident occurred.

His 27-year-old Filipino cleaning lady, Mrs. Credo Crinessa Reyes, was seated at the back. Loh's wife and three children were also in the car.

According to court documents, the surface of the road was slightly damp because it had rained earlier.

Loh drove at a speed of 50kmh when he turned left along the ramp and lost control of his car, skidding to the right.

The car climbed onto the edge of the central divider, struck a street lamp, and climbed the sidewalk on the other side of the road. He stopped after hitting the guardrail at the roadside

Ms. Reyes, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown out of the car and landed on the road.

Loh got out of his car and helped his maid, who was taken to the Changi General Hospital.

A medical report indicated that she had sustained several injuries, including several fractures, right ear hearing loss, and visual impairment. She was kept in the hospital for 52 days and underwent several operations

An inspection of the car revealed no mechanical abnormalities.

The accident caused damage to public property, including the uprooting of a metal ramp. post and an electrical box.

District Judge Kessler Soh sentenced Loh to a one – week jail sentence for a charge of serious injury caused by an act of negligence. It was also forbidden to drive for two years.
