THE HAGUE: Dutch doctors and scientists have interrupted a groundbreaking study on the use of Viagra to help pregnant women whose babies did not develop properly in the womb after the death of 11 infants
. research with 10 other hospitals in the Netherlands, announced that the study had been stopped after the death of babies, and after others have developed a lung disease being born prematurely.
Viagra, which is the best-known name for the generic drug sildenafil, is most commonly used for men with erectile problems.
But doctors believe that its properties in dilating blood vessels could promote a better flow of blood into the placenta and "stimulate the growth of the unborn child." Development has been delayed in the womb of the mother, said the hospital in a statement.
