Emails from Michigan Republicans show that they intended to manipulate legislative cards that paralyzed Democrats and joked about how this would affect specific lawmakers, according to a new report

The New York Times reports that emails that were unsealed in a court filing in connection with a federal lawsuit involving partisan manipulation.

One of the emails, according to the media, shows how Republicans wanted to put "Waste" in the Michigan districts they already control and pack black voters in a district near Detroit.

"In a glorious way that makes it easier to cram ALL of the Dem waste in Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland and Macomb counties into only four districts." Is there any of our side that does not recognize this dynamic? ", says the email from Bridge Michigan, part of The Center for Michigan, a think tank.

In another email, a district shaped like a finger was jokingly referred to as giving the finger to Rep. Sander Levin, a Democrat.

"Perfect. That's pointing fingers at Sandy Levin, "wrote the person." I like it. "

The federal lawsuit that brought the emails to light argues that state created gerrymanders unconstitutional proponents who violate voters First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.
