Eric Bailly targeted by two Premier League teams as Man Utd eye transfer replacement

Arsenal and Tottenham are pursuing Manchester United defender Eric Bailly.

The Ivory Coast star has grown frustrated in recent weeks following his exclusion from the first team at Old Trafford.

The north London duo both inquired about the 24-year-old’s availability back in the summer, and have recently reaffirmed their interest, reports the Daily Record.

The Red Devils were unwilling to part with the defender then, and their position position hasn’t changed, despite manager Jose Mourinho reportedly eyeing a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Kouliably.

Bailly became Mourinho’s first signing as United manager when he joined from La Liga outfit Villarreal for £30million back in 2016, and after initially becoming a regular in the starting XI under the Portuguese, the defender has found first team chances few and far between in recent months.

Bailly has appeared in just five of United’s 12 Premier League games so far this campaign, with Mourinho opting for a centre-back partnership of Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling.

Bailly was reportedly unhappy with Mourinho after the United boss hooked him after 19 minutes in the 3-2 win over Newcastle last month with the Red Devils trailing 2-0 following a nightmare start at Old Trafford.

Should United alter their stance and decide to part with the Ivorian, Bailly could find himself at the centre of a transfer tug of war between the north London rivals.

Arsenal have shipped 15 goals in 12 games so far this season, with Shkodran Mustafi struggling for form and new boy Sokratis Papastathopoulos struggling for fitness.

Tottenham, meanwhile, boast a better defensive record, but question marks remain over the future of Toby Alderweireld, who is yet to commit his future to the club.
