Fire engulfs the terrace house near Little India

SINGAPORE: A large-scale fire broke out in a semi-detached house near Little India on Friday night (July 6).

The Singapore Civil Defense Force reported responding to a fire involving a terrace house at 82 Sing Avenue around 8:55 pm

"Upon the arrival of SCDF, the devouring fire engulfed SCDF firefighters braved the heat to surround the fire and prevented it from spreading to adjacent residences, "they said in a Facebook post.

SCDF adds that the occupants from the house were self-evacuated before the firefighters arrived.

The fire was overpowered with seven water jets around 10 pm, and there was no fire. Reported injuries, they said in the post at 11 pm

In a subsequent post, SCDF stated that the fire had been extinguished at around 10:45 pm A total of 14 vehicles of fight against fire and support were involved in the fight against operation fires, while the police helped evacuate residents along Sing Avenue and the nearby Rangoon alley.

Alarms could be heard ringing in the background

In a second video taken by Mr. Ong, a man could be heard asking the audience to "cooperate" while he was trying to keep people away from the fire.

A subsequent photo showed that the road was cordoned off by police tape. At least one fire truck could be seen on stage.

Sales Manager Chew Boon Yeow told Channel NewsAsia that he was dining nearby when the fire started.

"I had dinner, then people shouted" fire ", the fire was big enough, there were two fire trucks and about four police cars," said the 42-year-old.

The Twitter user Elizabeth Davis said in a tweet that "a lot of emergency vehicles" were on site. She described fire as "massive".

Isabel Areglo, a nurse who lives near Mergui Road, told Channel NewsAsia that she had seen the fire around 8:52 pm.

"I was on the balcony calling, then realized that smoke was coming from the building," she said. "I told my roommates and we thought what it could be, then we saw the fire grow with a cloud of black smoke."

Another NewsAsia Channel player who lived nearby said that there was a "burning smell" in the air.

"When I looked out the window about 10 minutes later, I saw smoke and a big fire," said the reader, who asked to remain anonymous.

A NewsAsia Channel reader said that the MP for Jalan Besar RCMP Denise Phua was on the scene.

"The MP asked one of the affected residents to evacuate his home," he told Channel NewsAsia.
