Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso is running after a third straight victory in MotoGP in Malaysia, while he's looking to be crowned second world champion Marc Marquez.
Honda's Honda brand has already won the championship in Japan last month, but the race is about to finish second overall, a position currently occupied by Dovizioso, but Valentino Rossi is hot on the heels.
After finishing third in the Australian MotoGP last week, the Italian hopes to repeat his outstanding performances at the Sepang International Circuit on Sunday.
Dovizioso acknowledged that Ducati's performances were good in Sepang, declaring at a press conference: "It's really good, this track for me."
But he did not win and second place was won, and he said everything could depend on weather conditions.
His win in 2016 – the first MotoGP he has won in seven years – and his win in 2017 have been very violent, and he said the dry conditions could actually play against him.
"In the past … we did not do a lot of good results on the dry side," he said.
Nevertheless, there is a good chance that it will rain over the weekend, with Malaysia experiencing frequent torrential downpours as it enters the monsoon season.
Marquez, who won his last victory in Malaysia in 2014, conceded that it would be difficult to face Ducati.
"It's true that normally Ducati has a very good level here in Malaysia," he said.
"But you never know. This is not one of the best circuits, but Motegi (in Japan) was not one of the best circuits and we were finally able to fight For victory."
The Spanish, who has now won five titles in the premier category of the bike, hopes to have more luck in Malaysia after being forced to leave the Australian MotoGP following a spectacular high-speed collision.
Johann Zarco, of Yamaha, shunted him to the sixth lap while he was screaming at 250 km / h. Neither the French nor Marquez were injured.
"Thank goodness we are both well, we have already spoken and he has apologized," he said.
Yamaha's Maverick Vinales triumphed at Phillip Island, winning his first win of the year to break the drought that has pitted Yamaha against 25 races.
