Who lost China? This cry was high in the United States after Mao Zedong's victory in the Chinese Civil War in 1949. It was a strange question. Strange or not, this cry helped the Republicans gain power in 1952. It favored the rise of Joseph McCarthy, whose politics had similarities to those of Donald Trump – especially, in the accusation that traitors infest the US government.
