CARNOUSTIE, SCOTLAND, July 19 (Reuters) – Sung Kang defended himself on Thursday because of an allegation of cheating made by another competitor, saying he had "followed the rules "and had not done anything wrong.
American Joel Dahmen accused the South Koreans of taking a bad penalty after being injured during a duel during the last round of the PGA National Tournament in Maryland ago. three weeks.
After a long consultation with an official of the rules on where the ball had crossed the danger line for the last time, Kang was allowed to fall near the green, while Dahmen thought the fall should have been to go much further.
"I followed the rule by the game officials so I think I did the right thing," Kang said after getting the 69 in the first round at the British Open at Carnoustie.
"I really want to say a lot about it, the truth about what happened but … whatever I say, some people will trust and some people will not trust in her."
The PGA Tour stated at the time that an official of the rules had sided Kang's side as there was "no clear evidence to prove otherwise" where the correct fall should have occurred.
Dahmen thought otherwise.
"Kang cheated," he tweeted at the time. "He took a bad fall from danger, I quarreled until I was blue, I lost it."
Kang said that he had briefly spoken with Dahmen at the John Deere Classic last week in a quest to clear the air, but they did not have time to discuss before their laps respectively.
Kang also said that the charge had been difficult to take.
"The way he said on Twitter was not correct, I think, but there may be different opinions: the first few days were hard, I really pissed off." (Report by Andrew Both, edited by Clare Fallon)
