SINGAPORE – Giving an overview of Singapore's history and heritage – places of worship to schools, museums and commercial buildings – a book dedicated to Singapore's national monuments was launched at Istana on Thursday July 19th.
The 288-page publication, Monumental Treasures: Singapore's Heritage Icons, presents stories and photos of 72 national monuments and their communities,
. It was officially launched by President Halimah Yacob: "National monuments are important to us. They tell us about our past and connect us to our present and our future.
She added that next year will mark the 150th anniversary of Istana and will be a place that reflects and commemorates many things. From the history of Singapore, she hopes that Singaporeans will get involved in the events and activities planned for the milestone year.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Warren Fernandez, editor of the nglish / Malay / Tamil Media Group at Singapore Press Holdings and president of The Straits Times Press, which published the book, said: " This book is something I dreamed about and wanted to do for a long time.
