Mitsubishi India remains a marginal car manufacturer with only three products, and all luxury luxury SUVs. The best-selling vehicle of the Japanese automaker, Pajero Sport, has undergone a slight facelift through the new edition of Splash. As its name suggests, the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Splash Edition is a stylistic tweak of the SUV. The automaker now allows customers to choose from over 30 different colors and styles for the Pajero Sport. These patterns and colors are essentially graphics that can be glued on the SUV, making it more attractive than just a two-color paint job.
This personalization program is unique in the luxury SUV segment, where the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport competes with Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavor. The Pajero Sport SUV is mechanically unchanged. At the heart of the matter is a turbocharged 4-cylinder 2.5-liter diesel engine producing 175 hp and 400 Nm (350 Nm on automatic versions). This engine gets two gearbox options – a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic torque converter. A four-wheel-drive configuration with on-the-fly electric shift function is offered on variants equipped with a manual gearbox. When the four-wheel drive mode is not activated, the Pajero Sport is driven by rear wheels.
The SUV is built on a sturdy chassis with a ladder frame and offers three rows of seating for seven people. The ground clearance is 215 mm. Mitsubishi assembles the Pajero Sport at the Hindustan Motors factory in Tiruvallur, near Chennai. The Japanese SUV is imported to India by way of the completely demolished kit (CKD). The SUV is sold in two variants, Standard and Select Plus. The prices of Pajero Sport Standard Splash Edition start from Rs. 28.85 lakhs for the automatic variant. The manual variant with 4X4 is priced at Rs. 28.32 lakhs. The automatic and manual Select Plus variants are priced at Rs. 30.02 and Rs. 30.50 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom figures from Delhi.
