This 6,474-square-foot semi-detached house at the corner of Jalan Wajek looks like the industrial home, with its steel and black glass exterior, with a corrugated iron roof more commonly used in the construction of buildings. flattened factories here. It is therefore surprising that the team of Three-D Conceptwerke reveals that the design was not dictated by a particular style.
As a typical reinforced concrete structure would be visually too heavy, they decided to use I-sections for columns and beams. Instead of covering these structural members, they chose to express them, which resulted in an aesthetic language that is a manifestation of the ethics of design rather than style. The choice of building elements also responded to the owners' preference for a dry construction approach. Alex Lin and Pauline Soo were adamant about minimizing disruption for their neighbors, so the house was designed with pre-fabrication in mind and without stacking.
The interior design firm's team and Soo, comprising a raised "kelong" style house on stilts, and one with front and rear blocks connected by a central staircase, before finally arriving at the final design, which more reminiscent of a traditional kampung housing layout. But all projects had a common denominator, which is the element of community life. With three children in a relationship, the couple firmly believes in space for the quality of time spent with their family, especially when the children are still young.
