That is at least according to the comments made by Skriniar’s agent.
Manchester United tried to land a top centre-back over the summer, but Jose Mourinho was rebuffed, failing to sign Leicester’s Harry Maguire or Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld and involved in a stand-off with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
Although Victor Lindelof has been given a regular run in the first team, Mourinho still has question marks over Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are also in the hunt for Skriniar, while United are exploring a potential deal for the 23-year-old in January.
But Skriniar’s agent, Karol Csonto, insists his client is in talks over a new deal at the San Siro, even though his present contract expires in 2022.
“We’re talking about it,” Csonto said when asked about a potential contract extension for Skriniar.
“We’re working on it. It’s a subject we’ll be facing more intensively over the next few months.”
Csonto is also adamant Skriniar is happy at Inter, adding: “He is happy with the Nerazzurri shirt, he is playing well, but he is aware there are some difficulties in Serie A.
“Inter had won seven games in a row prior to the loss against Atalanta. He is doing well. I’m happy.
“He is happy to be playing in the Champions League.
“Clearly, the goal is to grow with the team and improve day by day.”
Meanwhile, Inter boss Luciano Spalletti reckons Skriniar is worth £89million.
Last week, he said: “How much does Skriniar cost? €100million.
“If I were Barca, I would pay €120m and say that €20m are the tip.
“If I were Real Madrid, I would give €140m, including a €40m tip.”
